They lived a sort of law of consecration, giving their all to the church and receiving back what they needed to survive. This is the polar opposite of Communism, where government takes things by force.

They were under persecution, meaning that the normal day-to-day living and working did not apply, therefore, they saw the need to pool their resources. It was not done to establish a long term principal.

The Jerusalem morons were expecting Jesus to come back soon, which he promised to do but failed miserably.
Other churches bailed their sorry assses out when Jesus failed to keep his promise.

Those were the Christians who learned directly from Jesus. They shared what they had without holding money back for themselves. Sounds like the teachings of Jesus have been modified over time to allow for more love of money.
