Is this ok?

Had my oil changed and my car asks for 0w20 or 5w20 and the mechanic put 5w30 and also overfilled the oil

your car asked for it? damn-my car doesnt talk.

seriously - overfilling the oil can cause damage to the engine in a modern car.

If it is over filled just slightly than you will be okay. Most cars will operate just fine on 10w30 oil and not present any problems.

Most engines are fine with a slight change in viscosity - I know the ford 5.4 with VVT is not one of them - they need the lighter oil. Just to make a point (sloppiness is not acceptable) I may take it back to the mechanic and have him do it right.

5w30, to replace 0w20 or 5w20 show be ok in the cold weather where the 5w is more important.

Overfilling the oil is not good.  Easy enough to drain a little out.

Yes, it is o.k. in that it will not damage the car.
