1966 Ford Mustang, paid $225 in 1973, put another $250 into it to pass inspection.  Insurance cost more than the car.

cost to much , greedy car companies pay get there profits  then the dealer gets hes profit . biggest winner is the government , wage tax to make the parts , more wage tax to assemble the car , then sales tax on importer , then retail tax , the registration tax , and you pay for the lot ..the laugh is you have already paid tax on your money ..lol. mine was in 1973 , an old major for the sum of $100 , cheap but it was for the bush . old as in a 54 model with pop out indicators .

1952 VW Beetle. Had the motor apart and it was literally in a bushel basket. Paid $20.

In 1970, a 1963 Oldsmobile F85- $314.00 cash at a used car lot. Terrible POS.

It cost $600 in 1998. It was a 1980 Chevy Citation.

$800 in 1971. It was a VW Notchback, 1966 model I think. Probably a collector's item now. There weren't that many even back then, and I haven't seen one for over 30 years.
