I've never owned a cat, so I pick dogs.

They each have benefits and deficits - I guess a dog would be a first choice as they pay close attention to an owner and many really try hard to please the owner.
We had a big old fixed/male cat and two dogs at one time - all got along great and it was a nice mix. Nicest, easiest going cat I have ever met too.

Reptiles...
I like dogs better than cats. I don't care for cats. Sneaky creatures that are supposed to be domesticated but they do what they want and can't be trained.

cats, two years ago, a dog attacked my cat and tore open my cats back, my brother gasped, took a baseball bat, chased the dog and bashed it's head till it died.
My cat is still alive today, he was just seriously injured and almost died. I'm just glad he's ok. But ever since then, my cat has been chasing dogs when they bark at him.,
