Why hasn't anyone on death row ever picked old age as their execution method?

In jurisdictions where a prisoner can choose, they have to choose from a list of available methods, not make their own suggestions.
Ronnie Lee Gardner chose execution by firing squad back in 1985, over lethal injection. Though firing squad executions were abolished in that state in 2004, it didn't apply to anyone convicted before that date and who chose that method. He actually made the following quote,
"I'd prefer to die of old age, your honor, but if that ain't possible, I'll take the firing squad."
Utah gave him 25 years to die by his own suggestion but duly shot him to death in 2010.

The condemned prisoner doesn't get to choose the method of execution.
