Oh, many, many things.  None of which need a gun.  Handcuffs will do QUITE well. IT works in the UK and Australia.  Why would they not work in the US and Canada?

You do not have to do anything wrong, you just have to have people believe that you did.  There are plenty of conspiracy nuts in this country with nothing to back up their views, and many of these people have guns.
