Native english speakers ! Is the sentence "It’s sad when people die and their families cry" correct ?

With a period at the end, it's correct but it sounds childish.

As long as the full sentence will have some kind of final punctuation, yes, it's grammatically correct.

The sentence is OK grammatically but the rhyme (die/cry) makes it sound rather like a line from a humorous, jingle-like poem. If this is intended as a song lyric, you can overcome that with the music setting, but read as a prose line it sounds as if it's intended to be lines for a funny poem.
