as written:
a = b + 5x/8
Subtract b from both sides:
a - b = 5x/8
Then multiply both halves by (8/5):
(8/5)(a - b) = x

you really have to learn simple algebra
a = b + 5x/8
8a = 8b + 5x
5x = 8a – 8b
x = (8a – 8b) / 5
or
x = (8/5)(a – b)
