Why haven't they made long versions of all the other pastas?
Imagine spaghetti length rigatoni. You could have so much sauce packed in that hole, and you get the benefit of slurping it like spaghetti.
Lasagna is already pretty much spaghetti length ravioli. We need rigatoni, penne, and elbow noodles.

Trying to curl a footlong piece of rotini around your fork would be awkward in a dinner date.

Pasta shape are traditional. The history of pasta is actually very interesting. If you are interested I suggest a google search.

There are over 100 different types of Italian pasta. They come in just about every shape and size. Long rigatoni is zitone.
