what if intergalactic travel is invented in a few years?

what if intergalactic travel is invented in a few years?

by that i mean not only visiting other planets but other galaxies. using wormholes or warp drive or something to go faster than light..

What would that mean for the future of humanity?

Update:

Would we get fantastic photos of our own galaxy from the outside? Or other kinds of really cool things?

It would be like the old west all over again---People would move to NEW planets and start mining colonies on them---or farming, etc.----Some planets would vie for independence, there would be piracy and outlaws----likely no aliens to speak of---they would be very rare or less tech advanced than us for the most part.

The secrets of the universe won't be revealed to us until we learn to live with our own kind peacefully, can you imagine a more destructive species than the human being?  We have just about destroyed the earth we only have a couple of decades left before we lose our earth if selfish leaders don't agree on a plan to save it.

Galaxies are truly spread billions of light years apart z

There are 400 billion stars and trillions of planets in our Galaxy that we haven't explored yet. We have no need to go to other galaxies for a long time.

Don't worry, it won't be. No chance.

Well, I'm pretty sure it won't be, but....

Maybe with the ability to travel to other worlds (and other galaxies), maybe we could stop fighting each other down here...

Ridiculous.  The nearest galaxy is Andromeda, "only" 2.5 million light years away.  If we could travel at (let's say) 99% of the speed of light, it would take us "only" a little more than 2.5 million years to get there.

I think you are mixed up as to what a galaxy is.

Intersteller travel would come first, if that is at all possible. That involves travel of 10 to thousands of light-years.  intergalactic travel involves millions to trillions of LYs.
