I don't know if it still holds true, but by convention TV and movies have always NOT shown how to actually pick locks as a public service. They get a thing and jiggle it in the lock but they never actually do the real process on camera. No doubt there are exceptions, but this was a decision that studios made. Made they had help from law enforcement, I don't know.
