Instead of volunteering for the candidates I support, what if I try volunteering for the other side just to sabotage them?

You could be a troll volunteer. There's no law against it. When the other volunteers caught on to what you're doing, they'd kick you out.

And do what?  Most low level volunteers do not have access to anything to do any sabotage.
