Gear oils are not known for their rust and corrosion protection properties.  Rust and corrosion are not concerns in transmissions and differentials because they are sealed from the elements.  Gear oils are formulated to reduce friction and wear.

All gear oils are the same regarding rust and corrosion. Fully synthetic would perform better.
