Why do some people spell "as well" as "aswell"?

Do alot (sic, lol; a lot aka many) do that? How the heck would I know ??

I'd suspect those who do do not know better.
Because it’s a typo maybe
They are ignorant, and they don't read. It's the same reason some people write "a lot" as one word. When people read, they know what words are supposed to look like. When you only hear them, you won't always know when something is one word or two.

As a near 60 year old I am astonished at the spelling of some younger people. The one that really gets my goat is 'brakes' (brakes on a car) spelt 'breaks'. There are loads of others too, but that one makes me grit my teeth. My wife is 18 years younger than I, she says "What does it matter, you know what they mean", so I guess that is it, whether it is laziness or ignorance it does not matter apparently.
