My dumb friend is now trying to use words he has no clue about. Whats a nice way to say stop?

When he uses words without knowing their meaning or normal usage, you could when replying, deliberately look for puns or chose an incorrect alternative meaning of the word to make him think.

Encourage him to read some of Stephen Donaldson's work. Ideally the interminable  "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" series. Get it on Kindle and he can look the archaic words up easily.

Are you sure you're qualified?  "Whats" isn't a word.

I would just ask him every time he uses one of these words to define that word.
