Lee Kuan Yew, Seretse Khama, and Adenauer are a few examples of leaders who actually made their countries a better place to live while a lot of their contemporaries chose to push ideology and settling old scores at the expense of the wellbeing of their people.

Ben Franklin. He had very diverse interests and was great at all of them. He had a profound effect on editing and publishing, science, and notions on freedom and self-government that went a long way toward establishing independent governments in the US and France. He was the first official US diplomat, serving in France mostly to attempt to gain French assistance with the American fight for independence - which was successful. His time there helped influence the French independence movement.

He was a very interesting individual and one the average person could probably sit down and have a beer with.
