Should Yahoo rename the "horoscope" section  " astrology section?

And move it to sciences.

Sun sign astrology is still real astrology, it's just not the entire astrology system. Your answer doesn't make sense

Update 2:

This is Google's definition of astrology:

the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world.

Update 3:

You religious people are hypocrites. Neither any of the books under any Abrahamic religion doubts astrology. You idiots have been brainwashed by both the science and the religious communities, because astrology was one of the first science or belief.

Update 4:

There is God, Jesus Christ and all. It's one of the thing that the science community hate the most, because it throws doubt on many astronomical studies. Our universe, planets, stars, etc are all creations of God. God designed everything too align with everything perfectly in our universe... everything.

Sure, they could rename it that. But they shouldn’t move it to the science section, unless they add a “pseudo” in the beginning.

Astrology is not on the same level as astronomy.

There's a big difference between the genuine study of the planets and the stars and the solar system and the study of horoscopes in the belief that the planets somehow have a bearing on your life

A little etymology lesson is in order. The word "horoscope" comes from the ancient Greek "Horos" "Scopos" which means, roughly, watcher of the hour.  It originally referred to the ascendant only, and the degree of the ASC, not the entire sign. However words change their meaning over time and by the middle ages the word "horoscope," in English, meant the entire chart. The reader was often left to determine which, the ASC or the chart, the writer was referring to by context, the way we differentiate by context the words read (verb) and read (past tense of the verb).

In the 1930s when Sun sign columns made their appearance, the newspapers used the word "horoscopes" and that has pretty much stuck except among astrologers who still use it to mean the entire chart.

"Science" is a noun that comes from a Latin verb "scientia" which means "to know."  Originally it meant a body of knowledge.  If that were the current understanding of the word, astrology qualifies as a science, as it is a body of knowledge. However during the late 19th and early 20th centuries "science" has also undergone a change in popular meaning. It refers first to what are more correctly called the "applied sciences," e.g. chemistry, physics, mathematics etc.  Later on the 20th century it also refers to a method as in "scientific method." Astrology doesn't qualify as either of these.

However to think it is astrology that is closer to religion in the popular mind and not "science" is naive in the extreme.  We are now expected to believe virtually anything some guy in a white lab coat tells us and as often as not, he is as biased as any news reporter. "It's science" is supposed to settle all argument on the spot (whether it is or it isn't) just like "The Bible says" settles all arguments for a fundamentalist. "The science is settled" is as dishonest as any storefront preacher who was hanging wallpaper for a living a couple of years before he set up shop as a preacher. True science is NEVER settled. I recall a physicist arguing, just a few years ago, that there is no such thing as gravity. He insists other physicists misunderstand the phenomenon.

So astrology is not a science in the way we understand that word today, but I'd like to see Horoscopes renamed to Astrology if only because it might attract a higher quality of participants. Sun sign stuff is OK as an introduction to a far more complex and interesting subject. But let's face it, this section is dominated by lovesick teenage girls looking for "the one," plus a few cranks, and very few people interested in genuine astrology. Maybe we should have two sections; Relationship astrology" and "Real Astrology." Send the moonbeams elsewhere.

Science is a method based on observation, detection, measurement, and repeatable testing. It has its own magic called reality. Conducting science also makes it a verb. Anyone can conduct science. Math is essential. Kids do science in the classroom. If you’re into baking, that’s science. Deviate from procedure and the results are ruins. Follow and consistency is achieved. Astrology can’t do this.

Astrology is closer to religion. Being myth based and requiring blind belief. Lots of different versions that can’t be compared to see which is the most effective. You can’t independently observe astrology causes and effects. No education prerequisites are need to be an astrologer. Astrologers never boast their accuracy. Custom satisfaction is what they’re really proud of.

Besides, Yahoo Answers has change a few things, but never the categories. Elimination would be simple and better.

No.  Because almost everyone on Y/A uses "Sun sign astrology" which is not real astrology.  It is for entertainment only, even though most people use it as it is valid.
