What treatments are available for Cushing's syndrome?
Treatments for Cushing's syndrome include surgery and medications such as metyrapone, ketoconazole, mitotane, and mifepristone. Metyrapone and ketoconazole block the production of cortisol. Mitotane also inhibits cortisol. Some of Cushing's syndrome cases are caused by the medication glucocorticoids which are commonly prescribed to people with asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. In these people, Cushing's syndrome can be treated by discontinuing glucocorticoids.
