We as a country had more problems with the Swine Flu a number of years ago than we're having with covid-19. We didn't wear masks back then unless we were around someone who had it. We took proper precautions, which too many people have forgotten these days. As for doomsday, even the bubonic plague ("black death") only killed 1/3 of Europe. So no, covid-19 won't kill everybody. Some nutjob with their finger on the switch of a nuclear missile? "Eh, could be" as Bugs Bunny used to say.

The COVID-19 strain, no.  It's pretty clear that it doesn't have a 100% mortality rate.

In general, the immune system of our species is pretty good at meeting evolving threats, but it's not inconceivable that some pathogen could kill off a substantial portion of humanity.  I would probably be something novel that our immune system is not familiar with, easily transmitted through the air or surfaces, and with a time delay before serious symptoms show up.

While Covid-19 is very contagious so far it is not  very lethal.  Ebola and other haemorraghic viruses  have a higher mortality rate.  For a virus to kill everyone on the planet it would have to be extremely contagious,  lethal in an extremely short period of time like in a few days.
