A gas mixture with a total pressure of 5.0 atm is used in a hospital. If the mixture contains 5.9 moles of nitrogen and 1.3 moles of oxygen, what is the partial pressure, in atmospheres, of each gas in the sample?

Calculate the mole fraction of one gas:
X N2 = 5.9 mol / (5.9 + 1.3 mol) = 0.819
Partial pressure N2 = 0.819 X 5.0 atm = 4.1 atm
Partial pressure O2 = 5.0 - 4.1 = 0.9 atm
