Im asked to play a chromatic scale using alternative bowing. What is that?

If you mean 'alternate bowing', it involves alternating bow strokes (an up bow followed by a down bow followed by an up bow, etc.).

'Alternative' means something totally different.

Figure out what you mean to ask because "alternate" and "alternative" don't mean the same thing.
