    Most likely Interpretation - function

    The function f(x) has a value of 75 when x = 3

    this is equates to point (3, 75)


    Unlikely interpretation -  multiplication equation

    The variable f times 3 = 75

    To solve for f divide both sides by 3

    f = 25

    Whatever you do to one side of the equation, do to the other side. What you want to do is solve for F. So F is multiplied by 3. So to get rid of the 3, so that you have just F = something or other,  you divide each side by 3. Now we have F(3) / 3 = F (1). On the other side, we have 75/3 = 25. You can get rid of the 1, because 1 times any number is that number. So now we have, F = 25. When you plug 25 in for F, you get 25(3) = 75. So now we know we have the right answer.

    TLDR: Get rid of every number you can and just leave the unknown (represented by a letter) by doing the same operation to each side of the equation.
