Is performing 1 pass 35 times as good as a Gutmann 35-pass wipe?

    1 pass 35 times is the same.

    "Is performing 1 pass 35 times as good as a Gutmann 35-pass wipe?"  It is exactly as good in terms of security BUT — even a single wipe makes data recovery absolutely impossible.  In terms of convenience, however, a single pass taking 1/35 of the time is obviously preferable.
