Is Catholicism just a branch of Christianity or is it a different religion altogether? ?

The Catholic Church is the first apostasy church. In the second century after Christ they strayed away from the true teachings of the Bible. Sadly Protestantism religions followed the same path.

Catholicism is a schism of Christianity, in the same way that Protestantism and Orthodox are. There are sub schismsin all three. Protestantism has Methodists, Quakers, Baptists and so on. Orthodox has Russian, Greek and so on.

Catholicism has schism within such as opus dei various jesuit orders such Dominican, Francisco and so on. Some Catholics equate  Catholicism as Christianity and vice versa.

There was another Christian sect, the Cathars but they were wiped out by Catholic fundamentalists in the middle ages. The Cathars, unlike the Month Python sketch did expect the Spanish and the French inquisition. But it is but one of the 3 main Christian sects. In the same way that Islam has two main sects Sunni and Shia, which in turn have various schism such as wa'habi, sufism.

The answer to your question will always be up for debate. Many staunch Christians will argue that Catholicism is a different religion. And many main-line denominations will say it's just another Christian denomination. The problem arises from Catholicism itself. The Vatican has declared all non-Catholic denominations to be Christian wannabees. They believe heaven is reserved for them only, and that's not in the Bible.

All branches of Christianity trace back to Catholicism.  It is not a branch of Christianity it is the root.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity. Sarah is wrong about it being the "bark" of Christianity (it would be "trunk" anyway) because it was the "only" and the other denominations are its branches because, as Chi Girl points out, that's ignoring other ancient branches such as Orthodoxy; however, Chi Girl is labouring under the common misperception that the Great Schism of 1054 actually happened because, technically, the Roman envoys simply set their credentials down on the altar in Hagia Sophia and no actual "Schism" was ever formally proclaimed. But, as I say, it's a common misperception. There are other, equally ancient branches. Carym is just vile and Satanic attacking others who proclaim that Jesus Christ is God and, not only making NO attempt at fellowship, being adversarial.

The RC Church is classified as a cult.

The RCs bargain on their "Works of Righteousness" and many other sacrifices: Mass Cards can be obtained, for a donation and are distributed among the living and the dead. The Mass Card is supposed to shorten their time in purgatory!

The Catholics teach that the Rosary should be performed every day. Prayers are offered to anyone or anything in an attempt to influence God. There is ONLY One Mediator between God and men, "The Lord Jesus Christ." [1st Timothy 2:5].

Jesus Christ is the ONLY Rock (the Corner Stone) upon which the Church is built..."For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" [1st Corinthians 3:11] -- In [Matthew 16:23], just five verses after Jesus spoke of the "rock," he called Peter "Satan." There's no way Jesus was referring to Peter as the "rock" in [Matthew 16:18].

The Word of God commands us to get out of Babylon, saying: "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." [Revelation 18:4]. All true Christians will remain faithful to the religion of Christ as taught in the Bible, and heed the warning of the Apostle Paul, who said: "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." [Galatians 1:8].

We must apply the Doctrine of Christ in our lives NOT that of the church.

“Babylon the Great;” that is, the great city, by which name the Church of Rome is called, because of the signification of it: confusion, its doctrine and worship being a confused mixture of Paganism, Judaism, and Christianity; and because of the pride and haughtiness of it, its tyranny and cruelty, and its sorceries and idolatry.

Rome is the new mistress who would seduce and subvert the people of God. Her final appearance in the narrative comes in [Revelation 17].

    RCs, you've been warned...

Chi girl, I see you've concealed yourself behind that badge...Typical!

Do you know the difference between Biblical Christianity and Catholicism? No, you don't! You don't have enough going on upstairs (fake professor)! You adapt so well to false doctrines because you don't know the difference. Instead, direct your attention to God. Your responses are indicative of a self-condemned person. Again, it reminds us of how active Satan can be in a person's mental process.

P.S. "One's insecurity about his own spiritual status before God, will consume him completely if he does nothing." You've been warned many times...

It is original, true and complete Christianity, the one Church Jesus Christ founded, which He said was to remain one, to which He promised "The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth", and "Whatsoever you bind upon Earth is bound in Heaven", and "He who hears you hears Me". The only Christian Church that existed for the first 1,000 years of Christianity, when the Orthodox churches broke away. Jesus insisted that His Church remain one because truth cannot conflict with truth, and conflicting churches or denominations therefore always mean untruth.

    1) " To say that Catholicism did not exist for hundreds of years after the fictional Jesus, is a lie" It was the first so-called Christian churches.  2) It was not called Catholicism at that time, but was the only churches at that time; about 40CE, later it was named Catholic, Catholicism, but remained as it had always been.  All other Christian sects are nothing but off-shoots of the Catholic church.  The first priests were very likely the Jewish priests who were then out of a job and the Romans hired them to be Catholic priests. Anyone saying Catholicism cam much later, are those who do not do research and could learn the truth if they would strop believing the loud-mouth lying preachers.  BTW, No Christian sect is true, as the entirety of the stories used to support it, are all fictional or refer to something other than what believers think it refers to. No religion is anything other than a scam used to fool the gullible and control them to make them easier to be used for whatever reason needed.  Furthermore, that fake Jesus in the NT did NOT found any church.

It's Christianity. It's just that certain Protestants are very dogmatic about their views and don't accept other sources of authority than Scripture interpreted in a particular way.
