Orajel will numb the area, however it will not fix any potential underlying problems that may be causing the pain. You can apply Oragel with a cotton swab to the gums around the hurting tooth. Additionally you can also use oral pain medication such as Tylenol to help with the pain. When taking Tylenol take 500mg every 6 hours and make sure not to exceed 3000mg in a 24 hour period. If the pain does not go away or improve in a few days it may be a good idea to go to the dentist and get the tooth looked at.
