The word 'on' has a short 'o' sound.  The 'long' vowel sound is pronounced like the letter itself--EX: obey; opaque; odor; Oklahoma.

    Short --------------------------

    On has a short O.

For example On is pronounced just as is.

If it had a long o it would be oon

If it was a long 'O' it would be pronounced 'OWN'

    Short 'O'.

Short in American accented English. Like ' long'.

Short, like the "o"  in "long", "Don", "gone", "dog".
