chem help?

The molar enthalpy of combustion of camphor, C10H16O, is -5898 kJ/mol. Use the ΔH°formation table to determine the enthalpy of formation of camphor.

    I do NOT have  the ΔH°formation table to use.  YOU have the table somewhere == probably in YOUR book.

      combustion

        2C10H16O  +  27O2  --> 20CO2 + 16H2O 

         C10H16O + (27/2)O2 --> 10CO2 + 8H2O  + 5898kJ

      formation

        10CO2 + 8H2O + 5898kJ --> C10H16O + (27/2)O2

    ΔH°formation .. look up the definition .. it the formation of one mole -- (molar)

       . . . use the table to find  CO2 and H2O

    [ΔH° C10H16O]  + (27/2) [ΔH° O2] = 10[ΔH°CO2] + 8[ΔH°H2O] + 5898kJ 

      now just do the math

       ===  Hint -- notice that I did not mention using  O2 .. and O2 is not in your table - - - WHY???  Read for the answer.  It tells you right there in your book.
