Are Italian cars better than they used to be reliability-wise?

    Yes, the mainstream cars from Fiat (the rest don't count with so few sales) actually ar more reliable than they used to be, but compared to Asian cars they're still near the bottom of the heap as far as manufacturing quality and reliability is concerned. .

    here in europe reliability was not the issue ..it was rust ..they use to say italians car were built out of old battleships ..sunk in the med ..now a lot better

      I feel sorry for those people who do not have Lamborghini's.  And who cares about reliability. If it's in the shop, I just drive the Maserati.
