The novel coronavirus outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Health authorities reported dozens of people being treated for pneumonia from an unknown source. Chinese state media released information about the first death from COVID-19 on 11 January, 2020. Since then the virus has expanded to touch every corner of the globe. Millions of people worldwide have been sickened and hundreds of thousands of others have died.

It officially became known in December of 2019, hence why it’s called “COVID-19”. Some say the first human cases date to as far back as 2012 where a couple of mine workers in China caught a pneumonia-like sickness and we’re quarantined. Who knows?
