Does this look like a broken brake pad mechanic installed new brakes just 4 months ago ?

    We'd have to see ALL of it. Some pads comes with two slots in them to help dissipate dust and less squeak. If there is a similar" crack" at same distance from other end, then, No, this is a channel, your pads are OK.

    Hey Dufus...the brake pads are made that way. You should have replaced the rotors rather then have them cut. They will warp easier because of cutting them.

    Brake pads have a slot down the middle - search google for brake pad image and you can see what a pad looks like before installation. Looks ok to me.

    It appears you have a crack in your brake pad.  Cracks aren't unusual, or dangerous.  Without removing the pad it's impossible to say how severe the crack is.  Removing the pad is a very simple thing to do.
