Are broadcasters allowed to say the word Redskins when referring to the Washington Football Team in past tense ?

I know now they are the Washington Football Team but can a broadcaster say something like "in 1988 when the Redskins beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XXII"? Also if they accidentally slip up and say something like "Redskins beat the Cardinals 24 to 7" instead of "Football Team beat the Cardinals" then are they fired like if they used the N word?
