Is "Christianity is not a religion but a relationship" just liberal nonsense?

100%. The Bible says for us to congregate and worship him. The Ten Commandments. Jesus's commandments. Congregating to build one another up. That's the essence of religion right there. This is all just nonsense done to shame people for wanting to strive for holiness and having standards.

And what's wrong with a little culture. Tradition isn't always good. But mindlessness is not good either.

Update:

Evangelicals do not say that nonsense either. Evangelicals are very conservative. They're just not legalistic.

Update 2:

Nevermind many of them are legalistic, but the ones that are not legalistic don't say that nonsense whatsoever either. And I belong to such a church.

Won't specify demonation - but I am Protestant and believe in missionary work

Update 3:

skeptik

Um yes they do. The liberal megachurches preach this crap.

You are to always live in relation to god. Your faith is your relationship with god.

A massive congregation of people is the way god wants you to celebrate it.

    Nope, it's Christian nonsense.

I don't recall seeing a "liberal" ever say that.
