Can we build houses stronger?

I know nothing about building, but with watching the news and storms recently, Im just wondering can we build houses “strong enough” to withstand a tree landing on it? So that a tree couldn’t make the house cave in and kill people inside...?

We *can*, but there are trade-offs.  Cost would be a big factor.  Considering how often trees destroy houses, the cost of making them 'tree-proof' is not reasonable.  It's no different than why we don't build houses to withstand a semi-truck blasting through the front door.  You build to likely risks.
