How much yarn (in yards) do I need to crochet a solid 8" inch granny square?

I can't imagine it would be very much but I'm not sure exactly

You can use the information in the pattern to make any size of blanket. Yardage: In the gauge listed above, each granny square will require approximately 32 yards of yarn.Jan 23, 2013

You don't provide enough information for an answer. Yardage (length) would depend on the weight/strand of the yarn, and the size of the hook used.
