# What is your final weighted average is ? math questions?

To calculate a weighted average, use the formula weighted average=

∑xw

∑w, where w is the weight of the piece of data, x; ∑xw is the sum of the products of each piece of data multiplied by its weight; and ∑w is the sum of the weights.

Suppose that your final grade for a course is determined by a midterm exam and a final exam. The midterm exam is worth 40% of your grade, and the final exam is worth 60%. If your midterm grade is 77 and your final exam grade is 67, calculate your final weighted average.

The easiest way to think of this is like you had ten tests. Because the midterm is 40% of your final grade, four of these tests will have the score of 77. And because the final exam is 60% of your final grade, six of these tests will have the score of 67. Like so:

77

77

77

77

67

67

67

67

67

67

If you total these, you get 710. Divided that by 10 to get the average and your answer is 71.

I never learned to do it with that particular formula, though.
