If you have a Student Visa does that make you an American Citizen?
- robert43041Lv 71 month ago
No. It makes you a student, allowed to stay for a fixed period of time, after which you must leave the US.

Well no. If you get a student visa in Singapore, China, Russia, or anyplace else it does not make you a citizen there either. A person on a student visa is a guest and that is all.
A student is just a glorified tourist. The only difference is the student visa lasts longer so long as the student stays in school, and out of trouble.
The student must behave his or herself. The main reasons that guests students get deported are arrests. I think the most common arrest is DUI, followed by date rape.

If you are a US citizen with a student visa to some other country, then you are still a US citizen.
If you have a US student visa, then you are not a US citizen.

US citizens often do get student visas to study in other nations. But no student visa in any country conveys citizenship of that country. Student visas are always temporary and aren't even considered immigration visas (as almost all students globally will be expected to go home when they finish their studies).

No. Only confirmed citizenship can do that. That's how it works everywhere, including America.

No, it makes you a student who is legally able to study in the country the visa is for and once you have completed your studies you return home to your own country.......no student visa in any country in the world 'makes you' a citizen

Not unless you're already an American citizen.
A student visa is a temporary visa for studying only... you can only get one in a country where you don't hold citizenship.

Not even close. It does not even allow you to live in the USA once your studies are done.

No. It does not even allow you to become a legal permanent resident. You are a GUEST in the country where you are temporarily going to school, and your temporary visa is only valid as long as you are attending classes in-person full-time. You must meet all additional requirements. You are required to return to your country of citizenship immediately upon completion or termination of full-time on-campus studies, or if you violate any visa regulations.
