Pop music?  

Usually not. I've never found it particularly good.  I used to live in Europe, in fact, in France for part of the time, and I was often rather amused by music the Europeans loved.

But there have been some great French classical composers.

Yes. I'm a big Francoise Hardy fan. I have most of her 60's output on my playlist. I like France Gall, too.
