I am surprised that you really cannot work out why a large area of grass is hard work to mow using a hand mower. Half an acre is a large area. Need I write that one more time?

If the blades are sharp it should not be a big deal unless you are in bad shape

It just is. Imagine pushmowing half of a football field. That is what a half acre is the equivalent of. A half acre is 21,780 square feet of area. That would be a squared area of 147 feet on all four sides. That is a pretty big front yard. A lot of the lots I see are only a third of an acre including the land that the house and driveway takes up. That means those yards are much smaller than a half acre.
