why can some people smell images while i can't?

Digital images, like the ones on your screen, have no smell: the image formats, and the screen hardware, have no support for such sense.

Analog images, like printed photos or magazines, do have a smell: the chemicals used in the paper and ink.

If you smell something beyond that, either you have synesthesia (search for it) or you are deluded.

“most people can” smell images? No. Most people cannot smell images. If you can, you are gifted and should exploit that talent.
