What's the best thing about being a nurse? And what made you decide to become a nurse?

One nurse I know was thinking of going to medical school, but she didn't want to be a doctor who saw each patient for a couple minutes. She wanted to really work with patients and help them. So she became a nurse, and now works in labor and delivery, where she can help new mothers learn about their babies, how to nurse them, how to care for them. Because the doctors often don't get to the hospital on time, she often delivers the babies herself. Nurses don't just take temperatures and give spongebaths anymore (in most hospitals, that's done by assistants.) They do highly technical work with the very complex and advanced equipment.
