I had family members pass away around the time I was born to early childhood, but I don't remember experiencing it. The first time I really experienced a family member's death was when I was 10 - it was my dad's aunt, to whom my dad was very close to and she was like a mother to him (my dad had issues with his own mother). I did feel very sad, also vulnerable and surreal,, like on a different planet. It was really the first time I felt strange and surreal in my life in relation to a family member's death.

The first family member I can remember who died was my great grandmother.  I think I was 10 at the time.
