Can you relax then perm your hair?

Question

I'm black and I relax my hair to straighten it. Could I use a perm after a few weeks to get the specific curl pattern I want? Or is that too many chemicals on my head/hair? Would using a perm after relaxer ruin my hair?

the fewer chemicals you use the better.  Have you tried doing without the straightener and just do the perm?
