Should we ignore the thousands of children going to bed hungry because their parents lost their jobs and listen to the science instead?

We should not be concerned about the working class getting crushed, we should not care about the fact that homelessness and suicide are sky-rocketing...

We should instead focus on the .001% chance of catching a flu.

Coronavirus has a 5% fatality rate so far, and causes permanent damage in half of patients to the heart, lungs, and/or nervous system. It is not "a flu" (but look up the 1918 pandemic if you want to know how bad the flu can get).

Your chance of catching coronavirus isn't ".001%". More than 1% of the US population has already tested positive, and that will grow exponentially.

Nobody is going to ignore these numbers and go to a bar just because the governor demands that the bar be open.

Jobs in retail, entertainment, food, and transportation were all lost because people are afraid to go out among others who might be sick. Those businesses were losing money long before any government imposed a shutdown - in fact they were grateful to be PAID to shut down when they would otherwise have gone out of business.

How can we get those jobs back? By making the people feel safer to go out in public.

    Wear a f***ing mask.

Let's assume for a moment that none of the workforce is furloughed and all the workplaces are running full force.  But the virus is still there.

The positivity rate nation wide in the US averages around 8% [See source.].  So that means if you work at McDonalds and there are 15 employees there, one of them will be infected.  Let's assume they don't know they're infected, some 40% are asymptomatic in turns out.

So over 7 days working with that same crew and a 1.1 transmission rate, everyone of those 15 employees, including you, will be infected. [https://covidactnow.org/state/NJ?s=830154]

Now where's your economy and income?  At 60% symptomatic rate, nine of your co-workers have to call in sick.  I doubt the remaining six who are asymptomatic can serve up all those burgers now.

The bottom line is this.  A sick workforce cannot work.  And even more sick customers are not prone to buy goods and services while they are sick.

If we had kept the work and workforce going full strength with the onslaught of the virus, our economy would have had to shut down anyway.  And even worse, more people would be infected than have been infected with the shutdowns.

    If the "lockdown" deaths were truly identified and tracked we would see that killing the economy is killing people and that America is between a rock and a hard place. I agree with you to open up the economy.  {imo the science is not precise. Too many PANIC-demic stories ! ... and too many changing versions.}

It's not a flu, and the chance is much more than .001%.  Even if we don't include the survivors, about .048% of the country has already died from it.

It's a tough situation, but just pretending it isn't there and going about our daily lives is not the answer.  That will just make it worse.

Do you not understand what a pandemic is? How can a child be hungry but have a bed? It is us as humans to evolve is terrible situation like this and stop saying he's to blame, she's to blame, their to blame, or what about this, what about that? Are you really that caring and uprighteous? I bet you don't even know your neighbors, I bet you don't know more than 2 families on your block. For you to form an opinion and say, heyyy, why are we so focus on the Virus that DOESN'T have a CURE and is CONTAGIOUS and can spread into the MILLIONS in less than a year WORLD WIDE. Oh right, you're stupid. We are NOT ignoring all other disease, cancer, injuries, and illness. These things we can control to a certain degree. Whereas COVID19, we can not really control any of it. Stop being stupid for once and think.

Dear, if they listened to fake Conservative Christians, they'd be dead.

America needs to lose weight anyway. Good discipline.

personally i dont buy something as scientific just because they parade some 'expert' out there thats squabbling off about some nonsense .. lets get to basics .. what we observe, thats what 'science' is .. i'd say for 99% of people out there, there simply is no observable evidence of any sickness at all going around .. even the flu season this year was extremely mild ..
