The word has multiple meanings in computing, depending on context or type of port.
It means a connection point or data destination of some sort.
It includes physical ports such as USB, PS2 and serial (COM) ports.
In networking, ports are an extra detail used along with an IP address for both the From and To addresses within a data packet.
You could think of that a bit like the IP address being a street address, then the port number as an apartment or mailbox within that building.
With networking, they are used to give both a unique reply identity (so different programs or threads sharing your computers IP address get the appropriate data routed to them) and to identify different types of software service on network or internet servers.
eg. Normal http:// web requests are normally sent to port 80 on a server.
https:// requests go to port 443.
SSH uses port 22, and each other "named" service such as FTP generally has it's own port assigned.
So, they exist both on your computer and on any network or internet server.
