Christians, is it committing adultery to get married if you’re not a virgin?
Say you’ve already lost it to someone else, a long time ago and you want to get married the modern way.
I’m curious to read other people’s opinions on this, since in ancient times, there was no marriage ceremony.

adultery is when a married person engages in sexual behavior with someone other than their spouse.
>> since in ancient times, there was no marriage ceremony <<
Well...that's a huge exaggeration.
Even in ancient cultures that did not have a marriage ceremony
(note that many ancient cultures DID)
as far as I know
there was always at least a marriage CONTRACT.
Typically in ancient cultures
the man who had authority over the potential bride
would enter into a contract with the potential groom (or his representative)
and the marriage would be contractually binding
and consummated (that is: the contract fulfilled) on "the wedding night".
regardless of whether or not the bride was a virgin.
Take the Bible as one example.
Clearly non-virgins are allowed to marry (and in some of the oldest portions of the Bible several women are described marrying more than one man - not at the same time, though).
if a woman who is ***portrayed as a virgin*** to the groom
is found to be NOT a virgin on the wedding night
THEN the groom has grounds to charge her formally and legally with adultery.

In God's eyes--yes.
God loves you so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus, to the world to live a perfect, sinless life and to die on the cross and to shed His precious blood. Why?
To pay the penalty price for our sins, so we can be redeemed back to God.
All that we have to do put our faith in what Jesus did to save us and repent of any sinful ways. That is it.
kathryn, God wants what is best for you.
God wants you to have the best relationship with Him.
Start your commitment to God right now!
Do not have sex outside of marriage ever again. Why? Because you are devoted to God the Father and Jesus Christ.
I turned to Christ 19 or 20 years ago. Best thing I ever did.
Read and/or listen to the Bible often (try daily) and get to know God better.
The better you know Him, the easier it is to want to please Him.

No, it is not. You're not married to everybody you ever had sex with.

As used in the Bible, adultery generally refers to voluntary sexual intercourse by a married person with one of the opposite sex other than one’s mate.

Adultery is committed when a person cheats on their husband, or their wife, with another person!
Being a virgin, and it is good to remain so until you marry, otherwise, you enter into the sin of the Concubine, that is, having sex before marriage!
Is your curiosity satisfied?

It seems to be the consensus that as long as you feel really really bad about having had premarital sex, and ask the 'creator of the universe' to absolve you, then you are fine.
Honestly, I can't imagine operating under these kinds of pretenses...

God forgives sin, you need to do so also

And not only that, but if you were a man married to a woman (of course having sex with her), and married another woman (thus becoming a polygynist) that would not be adultery either.
For Christians, if after they get married, they have sex with someone other than their spouse, that's adultery. Or if their spouse is faithful to them, but they divorce them and marry someone else, that too is adultery (Mt 19:9).

Adultery is engaging in sex with a married/divorced person. Jesus says that if you are divorced and have sex, then you commit adultery. And if you have sex with a divorced person, you commit adultery.
Mark 10:11-12 KJV — And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Premarital sex between two unmarried people is fornication but not adultery.
But the penalty is the same for both offenses.
>>>Say you’ve already lost it to someone else, a long time ago and you want to get married the modern way. <<<
If neither was married or divorced then it was fornication but not adultery. If either was married or divorced then it was adultery.
This person cannot remarry if divorced. But if she was not at the time, and has since repented, she may marry. But not a divorced person.
