Why are people with diabetes more likely to die from coronavirus compared to those without the condition ?

In a news they said that a young women w/ type 1 diabetes died with coronavirus had she not had diabetes she would have survived the illness

Diabetes affects every organ in the body on a microcellular level making them less able to fight off infections or deal with the effects of an infection.
