Can anyone recommend a good novel with a heroine in their 30s or 40s?
I love reading, particularly Victorian fiction like George Eliot, but all the heroines are young women in their late teens or 20s. I'd like to read a novel about someone of my own age - a woman in her 30s or 40s. Can anyone recommend a book? Doesn't have to be Victorian.

Try Googling 'Older woman romance novels', 'midlife romance books', 'novels with older characters'
Also have a look on Good Reads and see if they list any.

Agatha Christie's Miss Marple is of indeterminate age, but I think anyone who checks her maid's dusting and knits fluffy pink things must be over fifty.

No, sorry. Can't be done. No-one writes novels with heroines in their 30s or 40s. No market for it, you see. I suggest you widen your parameters. Like, say, males between the ages of 15 and 82 who are scared of their own shadows and they're called Nigel, Brian or Dave. Something like that.
