It is because the ape ancestor of humans were booted out of the forests and into the dangerous African savanna. To avoid extinction, our ancestors had to change to survive and o find enough to eat. We changed from walking on 4 legs to walking on 2 legs, from having a single young every 5-7 years to having a child every 1-2 years if necessary, from being hairy like apes to being almost hairless, from having a few sweat glands to have them all over the body.

The biggest change is the evolution of the biggest brain ever found in an animal our size. We need that brain to figure out how to find new foods that no ape would eat, such as tubers and shellfish. We became so smart that we invented agriculture and we learned when to grow crops by watching the sun and the moon to figure out what time of year we should plant seeds and harvest crops. We did it to survive. If we have not evolved to be so smart, we would have become extinct just like the australopithecines and Gigantopithecus.
