Is the author of this quote a racist?

"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps... then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

    No, I don't think so.

"Nothing more painful" makes me think the author is not white, and they're sad (or angry at themself) that they felt relief.

Each of us have had different life experiences, hearing "footsteps" approaching from behind can be very scary for anyone.

Their relief could be short lived - as there are many bad people who are criminals - and they come in a rainbow of colors.

I'm guessing that a black man is alleged to have said it and some troll posted it somewhere.

No, but it's a sad state of the world that makes such a statement sound true.
