length is not linear. The relationship between length (L) and weight (W) is often modelled

by W = aLb

where W is the weight of a fish in kilograms, L is the length of a fish in

centimetre and a and b are constants. The constants a and b can be found for different

species of fish. The length measured is the fork length as shown in the diagram above.
